Beneath the Surface

Surrounded by beauty. Majestic mountains encircling and seeming to be just for them. Another wall of safety. These hearts are safe now.

Clean, soft beds, clothes that fit, fresh paint, new buildings—these are the things we see on the surface of the children of Esperanza Viva Youth Homes. This is what is easy to behold with our eyes. Looking deeper though, we find a challenge in Mark 8:18: “Though you have eyes, do you not see? And though you have ears, do you not hear and listen?” It comes naturally to see the beautiful grounds and the smiles that come quickly during mealtimes and group activities with an enthusiastic visiting team. But what truly is going on in that heart? What still haunts her? What consumes his thoughts? These precious lives that come to Esperanza Viva have deep sorrows, losses and pasts that are very dark and extremely real. These hearts are in need of daily prayer. They have come far and it is such a blessing to provide these amazing children with the physical safety and health they are so in need of, but the true work comes with their spiritual health. The deep work that can only be accomplished through the love of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. In the approaching season it is more vital than ever to pray His peace over these minds and continued freedom over their dear hearts. Prayers that their peace will not be found in things, but in the One who formed them, rescued them and has surrounded them, turning darkness into light.

As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
So the Lord surrounds His people
From this time forth and forever.
Psalm 125:2
