Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder

“Oooooh, yeah, a cheeseburger…” or “I can’t wait to see my daughter!” These, or some variations thereof, can be heard on nearly every short-term missions return trip to the United States. There is something about being away from our comforts, that makes us hunger for the things we left behind—just eight days prior. It may not be a Biblical proverb, but its truth rings true for us all—absence makes the heart grow fonder. We’ve all spent more time removed from the ones we love this year, and are left yearning to reconnect. The kids of Esperanza Viva have had a significant part of their lives removed this year by the COVID-19 pandemic too—visitors. They miss you!

The kids of Esperanza Viva
have had a significant part of their lives removed this year
by the covid-19 pandemic . . .

The 100s of visitors we typically receive at EV bring life-saving encouragement and love to the kids and then return home with perspectives and friendships carrying eternal impact. Visitors bring much-needed clothes and other supplies to meet daily needs, as well as lessons and activities that illuminate the Gospel to the children in refreshing ways. Without these visits, there is a gaping hole in the hearts and lives of visitors and kids alike.

At the time of this publication, fall and winter travel is still uncertain, as borders remain closed and political and medical policies continue to govern the likelihood of Americans visiting the children at EV. We may not know the week or month when visitors will freely travel once again, but we do know that we serve a God who will never leave nor forsake us. Until we see you face-to-face, may God sustain you and your loved ones, while He provides for the emotional, physical, and spiritual needs of the little ones in our full-time care.

In the meantime, we continue to hear the children say things like: “I miss the activities with the groups,” “I wish my sponsor could have come this year,” and “Amanda gave me this bracelet, it reminds me how much God loves me.”

If you’re looking to make a return or first-time trip to Esperanza Viva, we will continue to post updates and the 2021 reservation calendar.  LoveHopeMercy.org/VisitUs
