Children and Staff from Matamoros Campus to Relocate to Puebla

Published: June 23, 2020, by Living Hope International

Since 1994, the mission of Esperanza Viva to rescue children and train leaders has been carried out through our youth homes in Mexico. Led by a small team of faithful staff, our youth home located in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, has rescued children since 2006. Located along the US-Mexico border opposite Brownsville, Texas, this location has been ideal for coordinating the importation of needed donations for the ministry and hosting visitors from Texas churches.

In recent months, due in part to the coronavirus outbreak, the situation for our youth home in that border region has become unsafe: closed borders, increased violence, and lack of access to needed food and medical supplies.

After prayerful consideration, we have decided to consolidate our two youth homes and transfer the children and staff from EV-Matamoros to our Puebla campus.

We are open to the possibility of reopening that location at some point in the future. However, at this time, we see the wisdom in taking this step for the well-being and safety of everyone. The children and staff and their belongings will be moving to Puebla in mid-July, in time for the start of the coming school year. The staff is currently reviewing each child’s case, as there are guardianship implications for some children who arrived through the local Social Services in Matamoros and have surviving family members in that region. It is our hope to move the majority of the children to our Puebla campus. We appreciate your prayers, that the transition will go smoothly for everyone.

Please consider a donation today to offset the costs of this important step in the safety and well-being of the kids and staff.
