Letting Go

“…let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles…” Heb. 12

When we are faced with hardship, we have a choice. As we run our race in this life, we must run with everything we’ve got. Through the years, we have seen with our own eyes many incredible transformations of young people who have overcome their pasts and whose today is a miracle. A young lady who came to live at Esperanza Viva in her earliest years of life once opened up about her journey. As she shared her experiences, good, bad, and awful, her face lit up, and although tears streamed down her cheeks, she smiled. Her words were simple, “I had to choose to let go, and then repeat that choice again and again.”

Choosing growth is hard; although it sounds nice, it means facing a fight against what has grown into a gigantic obstacle. The mission of LHI sounds nice, and it is; but is it simple? No. It’s a call to do impossible things, to fight alongside others and not against their shortcomings. The mission is to keep running the race, but while we run, we now have a helper. While we run, we learn to carry the truth of the past and allow it to gracefully produce resilience, to cast off the pain and let love break through in order to sprint in freedom. In Christ, we find the only choice that will lead us to victory.
