EV Matamoros: Light in the Darkness
Who – What – Where – When – Why
A few miles outside the city limits of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, shines a light. This light has been present in the form of an Esperanza Viva Youth Home campus since late 2006. The people bravely serving as directors at this campus are Luis and Alejandra Aguilar, a couple who have been on staff for seven years. This second campus is strategically located in close proximity to the US border, right across from Brownsville, Texas, which facilitates the crucial process of importation of needed donations and vehicles for the ministries. It is also located in an impoverished and volatile area, typical border-town scenario, which has perfectly positioned us to rescue children from extreme living conditions and offer them a hope for a brighter future.
In the last few years, there have been new friendships forming between EV-Matamoros and local churches and ministries, which has brought about opportunities for short-term missions teams to visit our Matamoros campus, child sponsorships, and other forms of support.
Along with this growth spurt in partnerships, there has been a growth in numbers, with many new children arriving at this beacon of light. For our northern campus, a light in a dark place, there is much more in heaven’s storehouses yet to be poured out, and many more lives will no doubt be transformed through the ministry there. We want to ask you to pray specifically for our children and leadership of EV-Matamoros. Our spiritual enemy would like nothing more than to snuff out the flame that is burning bright in this dark and difficult environment.
